Chesapeake Children’s Book Festival Seeks Sponsors

The Third Annual Chesapeake Children’s Book Festival (CCBF), which will be taking place on Saturday, June 16, 2018 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Historic Waterfowl Building in Easton, is looking for local sponsors for this year’s event. CCBF is currently seeking funds to purchase approximately 900 books written by the authors who will be participating at the Festival. These books will be signed by the authors and distributed to children in our community through the Talbot County Free Library’s Summer Reading program.

This year’s Festival, produced in partnership with the Talbot County Free Library (TCFL), will feature more than 30 children’s book authors and illustrators, who will give readings, answer questions, and autograph their books. Other activities include music, food and beverages, exhibits, and numerous crafts. The participating authors include several award winners, and their books cover a wide variety of subjects for children of all ages up to pre-teen. Books will also be available for purchase at a discount. The proceeds from these sales will be used to pay for books to be distributed to local programs dedicated to promoting children’s literacy.

The Festival is being held in conjunction with the annual Juneteenth Celebration at the Academy Art Museum. Juneteenth is the oldest known commemoration of the end of slavery in our country, and this year is the bicentennial of the birth of Frederick Douglass here in Talbot County. Moving the event to the Waterfowl Building will allow for greater attendance and more freedom of movement around the booths and exhibits.

According to Festival founder Timothy Young, “Chesapeake Children’s Book Festival looks forward to sharing the joy of reading and the excitement of meeting authors with our youngest citizens. Both the Talbot County Free Library and Chesapeake Children’s Book Festival are committed to increasing reading proficiency through the gift of a book to as many children as possible. Literacy is a human right and the foundation of all learning.”

All funds collected for the Chesapeake Children’s Book Festival will be processed through the Mid-Shore Community Foundation. Please make checks payable to Chesapeake Children’s Book Festival and mail to The Chesapeake Children’s Book Festival at PO Box 43, Easton, MD 21601. For further information, contact Susan Kehoe at 703-627-5244 or Timothy Young at 410-829-3494.
