A Store Within a Store

This month, the Green Phoenix Gallery is pleased to feature its “store within a store” – Frivolous Fibers. Gallery owner Andi Tassencourt invites the public to the Green Phoenix on First Friday, June 1 from 5 to 8 p.m. to meet Perri Silver, owner of Frivolous Fibers. Perri will showcase a gorgeous display of her hand-dyed and hand-painted yarns in blends of silk/merino, merino tweed, and merino sparkle. The public is invited to stop by, learn how Perri creates her yarn, and enjoy some wine, finger foods, good company and conversation. There will also be a spinning demonstration showing how wool roving is spun into yarn, and demonstrations of other yarn-related processes.

Perri Silver, owner of Frivolous Fibers, hand-dyes and hand-paints yarns in blends of silk/merino, merino tweed, and merino sparkle.

From her days at the School of Visual Arts in Brooklyn, New York, and the creation of her own line of hand-dyed children’s clothing in the 1980s and 90s, Perri has come full-circle. Perri explains, “I treat the process of hand-dying skeins of yarn the same way a painter approaches a blank canvas. Each skein is an opportunity to put together a unique color combination, with a specific method of brushing the dye into the skein. I create colors and patterns that move me and hope they will entice our customers as well.”

Andi says, “It’s such a treat to walk into Perri’s shop and be able to enjoy the full sensory experience of her yarns – feel the soft silks and merinos, pick up and hold the skeins, and see her colors in real life without a computer screen in the way. Each skein of yarn is a beautiful work of art, making Frivolous Fibers a wonderful complement to the international flavor of hand crafted works by our Fair-Trade artisans, in combination with our eclectic mix of fine, artisanal crafts by local artists and oil paintings by Diane DuBois Mullaly. All come together to offer an environment with a full range of creative arts for the community to enjoy.”

The Green Phoenix Gallery is located at 31 North Harrison Street in Easton. The gallery is open seven days from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday through Saturday and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. For more information, call 410-822-7554 or visit facebook.com/greenphoenixgallery.
