Benedictine Charity Golf Classic A Success

The Benedictine Foundation hosted their annual Charity Golf Classic on Friday, Oct. 19, at Hog Neck Golf Course, drawing nearly 80 golfers and raising $ 31, 675. Funds raised directly support Benedictine’s mission to help children and adults with developmental disabilities achieve their greatest potential.

Over the past 30 years, the tournament has raised close to $1 million for innovative, comprehensive special education opportunities for children and adults with developmental disabilities and autism.

“The success of this event is all thanks to the generous support of our sponsors and players,” said Foundation Director, Barry Smale. “Special events like this help fund the purchase of adaptive school technologies and initiatives as part of our adult services community inclusion programs which, include vocational training and employment services.”

The day on the greens included much more than a round of golf. At the end of tournament play, participants enjoyed a raw bar, drinks and dinner before vying for auction items. One lucky player took home a donated cooler filled with a variety of bar items as part of the chest-of-cheer raffle, the event’s signature raffle drawing.

Benedictine’s Mobile Car Wash was on site to provide hand-washed car cleaning while golfers hit the greens. The mobile car wash is a part of Benedictine’s on campus carwash business that employs and trains adults with disabilities. The program was launched in part through the support of the Kerr Fund.
