Talbot Figure Skating Team

This season marks the 11th year for the Talbot Figure Skating Team (TFST), the Eastern Shore’s recreational figure skating club, located at the Talbot County Community Center on route 50 in Easton. The team is sanctioned by the Ice Sports Industry (ISI), which is a nonprofit organization for owners, operators, and developers of skating facilities and the creator of the original learn-to-skate programs.

The TFST membership has now grown to include more than 50 skaters of all ages and skill levels, coaching professionals, five synchronized skating teams and a production team. Participants represent five of Maryland’s Upper and Mid Shore counties as well as the state of Delaware. TFST encourages new members of all ages and skill levels with a passion for figure skating to join the team. A full schedule of skating related activities is planned, including holiday parties and membership meetings at the rink, participation in Easton’s Olde Tyme Holiday Parade, two home ice shows in December and March, and the exciting Talbot Classic competition in the spring, plus more. Also included are opportunities for skaters to join the synchronized skating and production teams.

Six members of TFST competed in the 2019 State Games of America held in Lynchburg, VA in August. Sarah Lamb (left), Amber Banghart, Lydia Periconi, Ciara Scheelar, Brianna Faulkner and Renee Banghart won a combined total of 3 gold medals, 4 silver medals and 1 bronze medal. That was quite an accomplishment since experienced skaters came to compete from far-away states such as California, Texas and Massachusetts.

To meet and ask questions of the team’s board, professional coaches and current members, families are encouraged to attend this season’s Open House to be held at the Talbot County Community Center rink on September 8 at 5:30 p.m. The TFST’s annual synchronized skating clinic and assessments on ice will be held on September 30 from 7:45 p.m. to 9:15 p.m. at a cost of $30 per skater. A clinic for synchro skaters and the production team will be held from 7:25 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. at a cost of $10 per skater.

Mark your calendars now for the always fun and exciting Winter Exhibition on December 14, the Talbot Classic Competition on March 1 and the Spring Exhibition on March 14.
