A Fond Farewell to Frivolous Fibers Yarn Boutique

Frivolous Fibers has had quite a memorable local history for those who enjoy the fiber arts. In 2006, it opened in St. Michaels on Talbot Street as part of Artiste Locale, a shop that sold hand crafted creations and fine art by local artists. Not long after, Artiste Locale continued to sell art, Frivolous Fibers’ yarn inventory spread out to all the corners of the shop. It became a full blown yarn store featuring, not only yarn and accessories, but also classes, workshops, sit and stitch groups, retreats and lots of parties.

For several years, Frivolous Fibers participated in the annual Maryland Sheep and Wool Show at the Howard County Fairgrounds, West Friendship, one of the largest festivals of its kind. In 2015 the owners of Frivolous Fibers made a collective decision to downsize and focus on unique, eclectic hand dyed and hand spun yarns. They rebranded themselves as a yarn boutique and relocated into a cozy corner of The Green Phoenix Gallery on North Harrison Street in Easton.

Now, Frivolous Fibers finds it’s time to wind up their yarn and head home. Beginning in December, yarn, needles, accessories, books and even shelves and craft tables will be on sale. The shop will close right after Christmas.

“We have loved our time in Easton and all the kind, lovely customers who stopped in over the years. We taught a lot of them to knit, and crochet, and even to spin,” says shop owner Perri Silver. “Please continue to follow our Facebook and Instagram pages. The current plan is to keep dying our own Frivolous Fibers Yarn Company silk, yak, alpaca and merino yarns, which will be sold through Shopify on Facebook and Instagram. We’ll also be collaborating with Yarniemarnie on Ravelry.com, featuring original designs, hand dyed yarn and kits, and other surprises. Thank you for all your support during our 13 years as a shop.”

Frivolous Fibers Yarn Boutique is located at 31 North Harrison Street in Easton, inside The Green Phoenix Gallery. For more information, call 410-822-6580. The shop will be open through Christmas, Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Find them on Facebook at facebook.com/frivolousfibers.
