Foxy’s Harbor Grille’s Expansion Project

The rumors are true! Foxy’s Harbor Grille has expanded, and now includes the famous “Tiki Patio” as well as a 7,500 square foot restaurant, on the prime waterfront of the St. Michaels Marina. For owner Terye Knopp, this is a dream come true.

Terye bought the quaint patio bar that was Foxy’s in 2011 which, to this day, is the largest full-service outdoor bar in St. Michaels. She transformed that area into a welcoming gateway to the harbor for sailors, boaters and tourists. Her flair for Caribbean décor, specialty drinks, delicious grilled food, and live music soon made Foxy’s as popular with the locals as with tourists.

The road to success has been a winding one that started back in the 60s. A young Philicianno man, nicknamed “Foxy” Callwood set up a beach bar on the idyllic British Virgin Islands shore of Jost Van Dyke. In the shade of a Tamarind tree, Foxy set up a bar for the specific purpose of welcoming visitors to his island home. One of those visitors was Arthur Webb and, when he returned to St. Michaels, he established Foxy’s to bring that island welcome to the Easton Shore.

Foxy’s has changed hands several times over the years and, in 2011, Terye, who was living in the Florida Keys, purchased it, and came home to St. Michaels. “I’ve worked in the hospitality industry since I was a girl. First, bussing tables and then as a server and bartender. I love talking to people as they eat good food, and Foxy’s is a welcoming first stop when you arrive in town.”

In 2019, Shore Gate Harbor LLC, an affiliate of the real estate investment and development company of Shore Gate Partners based in Easton, acquired 650 feet of prime waterfront property that included the St. Michaels Marina, and the three restaurants of Foxy’s Harbor Grille, St. Michaels Crab & Steakhouse and The Lighthouse Oyster Bar. Principle partners, Justin Nonemaker and Eric Zagorski, are familiar with the St. Michaels Marina and its reputation as a premier recreational boating destination. They hit it off with Terye from the outset.

When the Lighthouse restaurant closed, Justin wanted a capable partner and a good steward for the property, and Foxy’s was a natural expansion into the space. “Terye is a well-known, well respected business owner with a proven track record of success with Foxy’s,” said Justin.

“It made perfect sense,” said Terye, “as we have outgrown the patio space and this was a wonderful opportunity to grow and expand.” With the newly renovated space, which incorporates cool island colors, new seating areas, a gift shop and an event space with stunning views of the harbor, Terye is doing her part to elevate the overall marina experience. “I was a bit overwhelmed at first, but I am so excited with the positive energy that is flowing through Foxy’s right now. We are looking forward to a fantastic season!”

Ten years from now, Terye sees Foxy’s as one of the top destination spots for boaters and tourists. “My hope,” said Terye, “is that people will hear the buzz about Foxy’s, come to visit, and then find St. Michaels.”

Foxy’s is located at 125 Mulberry Street in St. Michaels. While Terye and the staff is happy about the expansion and look forward to seeing the public, they encourage safety during the COVID-19 outbreak. For more information, call 410-745-4340.
