Christmas Shop at Old Wye Grist Mill
December 2 @ 10:00 am - December 16 @ 2:00 pm
In time for the holiday gift-giving season, people are invited to the Old Wye Grist Mill for a Christmas Shop, open December 2, 9 and 16 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There are a large variety of items for sale, such as Eastern Shore grits, specialty stone ground flours including cornmeal, whole wheat, buckwheat, Maryland maple syrup, honey and much more.
The Old Wye Grist Mill is located in Wye Mills, smack dab on the county line between Talbot and Queen Anne’s. It is the oldest continuously operated water powered grist mill in the country and the oldest commercial structure in continuous use in the state of Maryland. The mill was founded in 1682 and, during the Revolutionary War, the mill provided flour for George Washington’s troops.
A commemorative Christmas ornament was unveiled this year to help with proceeds for preserving the historic mill. In August, the mill’s first floor was completely flooded and the costs to dry out and restore to grinding were unexpected. Pewter ornaments fabulously formulated by Salisbury Pewter are also available. Other gift ideas include embroidered aprons and caps that have been articulately assembled by students at Benedictine School.
Santa is coming to visit, too, on December 2 and 16. There will be snacks and beverages to enjoy while visiting with Santa and while shopping. For more information, email firstname.lastname@example.org or visit oldwyemill.org.
