Exhibit Inspired by Cuba
October 26, 2019 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm
An Englishman and an American woman arrived in Cuba earlier this year. Wildlife painter Jonathan Shaw and his wife Anne Habberton were immediately taken with the vibrancy of the country. The fresh air was laced with cigar smoke, the cars were all a candy colored vintage, the horses reminded them of the Paso Finos they raise back home in Maryland and, of course, there were the birds. Jonathan specializes in birds. He raises and hunts with birds of prey, and he paints birds all year round. With the Queen Anne’s County Arts Council, he has been teaching middle school students how to paint hawks through the STArt Program for years.
The Queen Anne’s County Centre for the Arts will be hosting a full show of Jonathan’s work inspired by Cuba. Visitors will see a window into the people, places, horses, cars and, of course, the wildlife of this gem of a country. Vibrant colors and lively subjects mix the familiarity of a time gone by with an exotic air. The show opens with a reception on Saturday, October 26 from 6 to 9 p.m. at 206 South Commerce Street in Centreville. Appropriately themed refreshments will be served, admission is free, and the event is open to all. For more information visit queenannescountyarts.com or call 410-758-2520.
