Free Fishing Day Derby

Thursday, July 4 • 10 a.m.

Martinak and Tuckahoe state parks

Head to the Tuckahoe Boathouse or the Martinak Boat Ramp and throw a cast. No license is needed on Free Fishing Day, and prizes will be awarded. Loaner rods are available for the first 15 participants at each location. For more information, call 410-820-1668 or park-tuckahoe@dnr.state.md.us.

First Saturday Guided Walk

Saturday, July 6 • 10-11 a.m.

Adkins Arboretum, 12610 Eveland Road, Ridgely

Explore the Arboretum’s diverse plant communities on a guided walk led by an Arboretum docent naturalist. Explore the bottomland forest and upland paths, meander through majestic beech trees, traverse the native meadows, and follow the narrow Tuckahoe Creekside path. Guided walks are free for members and free with admission for the general public. Tours begin at the Visitor’s Center and last approximately one hour. 229th Army Band Concert

Denton Ghost Walk

Tours depart the Courthouse Green, Market Street, Denton

Join Chesapeake Ghost Walks for a haunted stroll through Denton, one of the most actively haunted towns on the Eastern Shore. Sites on the walking tour include the Caroline Jail and the ghost of Wish Sheppard, the old St. Luke’s Cemetery and the Courthouse Green, where one will hear stories about the old Indian tribes, Marshall Price and the ghost of Annie Belle Carter. Community Luau

3rd and Market streets, Denton

The Caroline County Family YMCA celebrates its first Community Luau on Saturday, July 27 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 3rd and Market streets in Denton. This event will be free to the community. As part of the attractions during the event, there will be a bounce house, games, vendors, a hula dancing contest and a hula hoop contest. Vendors are still being accepted. Chrome City Ride

Benedictine School, Ridgely

The Benedictine School welcomes motorcycles, street rods, classic and custom cars to campus on July 28 for the 18th Annual Chrome City Ride benefitting children with disabilities. Rally points are across the area, but 1,000 or so riders enjoy a fun party at the end of the ride at the school’s campus. For more information, visit benschool.org.
