“Tiny Tim’s Christmas Carol”

Garfield Center for the Arts at the Prince Theatre, 210 High Street, Chestertown

Director Bonnie Hill brings to the stage the classic story of “A Christmas Carol” as presented from the perspective of Tiny Tim. Tiny Tim is determined to have his father home for Christmas Day, even if it means teaching Ebenezer Scrooge a lesson in Christmas cheer. Adapted from the classic Charles Dickens novel, Tony award winner Ken Ludwig writes a heartwarming Christmas tale full of family fun! Directed by Bonnie Hill. For tickets, call 410-810-2060.

Open House

Sumner Hall, 206 South Queen Street, Chestertown

Sumner Hall is one of two existing African American G.A.R. buildings still standing in the United States and the only one offering regular programs. Built circa 1908 and fully restored in 2014, it serves today as a museum, education site, performance stage, social hall, gallery and community center. Deepen the meaning of the holidays season with a visit on a Saturday during the month of December. Live Playwrights’ Society

Garfield Center for the Arts at the Prince Theatre, 210 High Street, Chestertown

The Live Playwrights’ Society for Play Writers, Readers, Observers and Critics aims to foster a community of playwrights, actors and critics. This group meets the first Monday of every month at 7:30 p.m. and is open to all ages. For more information, visit http://liveplaywrightssociety.org.

Festival of Trees

December 7-9

First UM Church, 105 North Mill Street, Chestertown

This community event hosted by Soroptimist International of Kent and Queen Anne’s Counties displays trees decorated by businesses, organizations and families. The event is free and open to the public. In addition to decorated trees, there will be live entertainment and a visit by Santa and Mrs. Claus. For details, call 410-708-6554.

Wassail Party

Chestertown First Friday

Chestertown Historic District

Each month on First Friday, the Downtown Chestertown Association hosts this progressive open house. Businesses keep their doors open later so everyone can enjoy gallery exhibits, unique shopping, special performances, kids’ activities and a variety of dining options. During December, each Friday evening is a great time to join local independent shops, galleries, studios and restaurants for a night out on the town. Dickens of a Christmas Weekend

Historic Chestertown transforms itself into Victorian-era London and celebrates Charles Dickens and his famous novella, A Christmas Carol. Boogie Woogie and a Message

Sumner Hall, 206 South Queen Street, Chestertown

The African American Legacy & Heritage in Jazz, Blues and Gospel Concert Series presents Daryl Davis Offers Boogie Woogie and a Message at 7 p.m. on December 8.

Sumner Hall strives to promote an understanding of the African American experience within the context of American history and culture and to serve as a showcase for the African American experience on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. An important part of this history and culture is the legacy of Black America in jazz, gospel, and blues. This year Sumner Hall will shed much needed light on this immense body of music by offering a concert series produced for Sumner Hall by retired Mainstay founder and director, Tom McHugh. An Evening with Lisa Damour, PhD

Lisa Damour writes the monthly adolescence column for the New York Times, serves a regular contributor to CBS News, maintains a private psychotherapy practice, consults and speaks internationally, and serves as executive director of Laurel School’s Center for Research on Girls. Lisa will explain how your adolescent child’s erratic and confusing behavior is actually healthy, necessary and natural. The event is free and open to the public.
