Church Hill Theatre, 103 Walnut Street, Church Hill
This play is Oscar Wilde’s charming gift to the world of theatre, full of witty, subtle banter and the ingenious use of words that takes advantage of their multiple meanings. It revolves around two dashing Victorian-era gentlemen who believe that a bachelor need not be Earnest unless of course the woman he loves demands it of him. When each of their lady loves claim to only love men called Ernest, each of the men struggle to maintain his own charade. They all become entangled in a delightful romp of mistaken identities, secret engagements, and an elaborate plot, which ridicules Victorian sensibilities while producing an evening of hilarious comedy for the audience.
