SMAL’s Holiday Happenings
December 7 @ 10:00 am - December 9 @ 4:30 pm
In addition to its many regular activities, the St. Michaels Art League (SMAL) will host its annual holiday party on December 3 as well as feature two artwork displays in December.
The “Martha Hudson Award for Excellence in Watercolor” is an annual award presented by the St. Michaels Art League. Martha Hudson was well-known in the community for her watercolors depicting scenes of Eastern Shore life. As a young art student, Martha was given a grant to use for the continuation of her studies. In return, she has generously left an endowment for an award to be given each year to a deserving watercolor artist.
The judge this year is Daniel Riesmeyer. Daniel has a Masters of Fine Art in painting from the Henry R. Hope School of Fine Art at Indiana University, and is currently an instructor at the Maryland Institute College of Art and at Anne Arundel Community College.
Awards will be presented at the St. Michaels Art League Holiday party on December 3, which starts at 5:30 p.m. The members’ artwork will be on display at the St. Michaels branch of the Talbot County Free Library and many of the pieces will be available for sale from December 3 to December 31. The library is located at 106 Fremont Street in St. Michaels. Library hours are Monday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Tuesday and Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon.
In a separate exhibition, the St. Michaels Art League is pleased to present its third annual show and sale during the Christmas in St. Michaels weekend, December 7, 8 and 9, at Clark Gallery. The show will include original paintings and other art plus a special exhibit of “small treasures” that are priced for gifts at under $100. In addition to the special show by SMAL artists, original works by gallery owners Heidi Clark and Pat Spitaleri will be on display. The SMAL show hours are 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The Clark Gallery is located at 308 South Talbot Street in St. Michaels.
