St. Michaels Community Center Upcoming Events

The St. Michaels Community Center (SMCC), the heart of the community since 1990, promotes and provides quality activities, programs and services all year long. In addition to providing its regular monthly activities for the public, it will host special events, including Talbot Idol and a Homecoming Dance, as well as contribute to National Night Out – all in August.

Concerts in the Park

Thursdays • 6:30 p.m.

Muskrat Park, 207 Willow Street, St. Michaels

SMCC’s Concerts in the Park wrap up this month. Enjoy a concert every Thursday at 6:30 p.m. The concerts are free and open to the public. Guests are encouraged to pack a picnic. This month’s concerts are as follows: August 2 – Anthony “Turk” Cannon Project; August 9 – Joe Hickey; August 16 – Young Bucks; August 23 – Comfort Zone; and August 30 – Drifter’s Union.

Talbot Idol

August 4-5

St. Michaels Middle/High School Auditorium, 200 Seymour Avenue

Auditions begin on August 4 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. One must call 410-745-6073 to schedule an audition time. Cost is $20 per entry fee. Live competition then begins at 3 p.m. on August 5. Winners are voted on by the audience. Prizes will be awarded for top Youth, Adult and Group performances. Tickets cost $10 per adult and $5 per student. The Grand Prize Winner will win $250, plus the Annual Grand Champion Trophy. This event is funded in part by the Talbot County Arts Council with funds from Talbot County Council and Maryland State Arts Council.

National Night Out

August 7 • 5-8 p.m.

Bay Hundred Area Pool and SMES Parking Lot

911 South Talbot Street, St. Michaels

The St. Michaels Police Department will host the inaugural St. Michaels – Bay Hundred National Night Out on August 7 with help from several local organizations, including SMCC. This annual community-building campaign promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live. Come out for this free event as it promises to be an evening full of free food, fun and fellowship. For more information, contact Marianne of St. Michaels Community Center at 410-745-6073.

Sip ‘N Paint

August 10 • 6-9 p.m.

SMCC, 103 Railroad Avenue, St. Michaels

Paint a crab on a basket lid for this class. It costs $40 per person. There will be wine and snacks to enjoy. Enjoy fun, fellowship and painting. Call 410-745-6073 to reserve a basket lid.

Homecoming Dance

August 25 • 8 p.m.

St. Michaels Inn, 1228 South Talbot Street, St. Michaels

The theme of this year’s Homecoming is “The Golden Age of Hollywood.” Live music will be provided by Radio City. There will be lots of dancing, lite fare, raffles, a live auction and more. This year’s “court” includes Shawn and Marissa Carter, Laura Chance, Mike and Courtney Gorman, Kim and Bob Hannon, Helene and Ed Higgins, Peter and Lucka Paris, and Richard and Monica White. All participants and attendees are encouraged to dress in old Hollywood style. Each ticket purchased, or donation made in one of their names gets them closer to the crown. Tickets are on sale for $65 per person, or a reserved table of eight for $600. Tickets are available by calling 410-745-6073 or contacting a member of the court.

Food Distribution

Every Monday • 12:30-2 p.m. Every Wednesday • 1-2 p.m.

To help support St. Vincent DePaul in their distribution efforts, St. Michaels Community Center offers food distribution twice per week at its building. It is open to all Talbot County residents. Must provide identification. Each family can participate once per week.

Senior Gathering

Every Wednesday • 10:30 a.m.

SMCC, 103 Railroad Avenue, St. Michaels

In partnership with Upper Shore Aging, St. Michaels Community Center hosts a Senior Gathering weekly. Beginning at 10:30 a.m. with games and activities is followed at 11:30 a.m. for a healthy lunch and conversation. Suggested donation is $2 per person.


Every Thursday • 10 a.m.-Noon

SMCC, 103 Railroad Avenue, St. Michaels

St. Michaels Community Center proudly announces Mahjong Play, hosted by Blue Crab Coffee on Fremont Street in St. Michaels. There is no charge to play this ancient Chinese game of strategy and skill. All skill levels are invited to attend.

Aunt Jeannie’s Soup Kitchen

Every Friday • 11 a.m.-3 p.m.

SMCC, 103 Railroad Avenue, St. Michaels

All are welcome to attend. Jeannie provides a hot, nutritious lunch every Friday. While the menu changes weekly, it is sure to please. Pay what you can, if you can. Eat in or take out available.
