Talbot Mentees Learn, Grow, and Thrive
May 8, 2019 @ 4:30 pm - 5:30 pm
Talbot Mentors (TM) is known for its 22-year history of one-to-one community-based mentoring in Talbot County. New in 2019, TM has created weekly on-site programming available exclusively for mentors and mentees.
For those who have considered becoming a mentor but wondered, “What activities can I do for two hours a week with a young person?” On-site mentoring activities provide a great option. TM’s on-site program is a way for both new and existing mentors to connect with its network of over 100 mentors as well as the support staff, all while having fun and strengthening the mentoring relationship.
TM’s first season of regular on-site activities was a success. “We are so grateful for the 18 mentor/mentee pairs who participated in our inaugural weekly on-site STEM programming between January and March,” said Executive Director Gerson Martinez. “Mentor/mentee pairs dropped in to participate in hands-on STEM experiments, having fun together all while learning physics, chemistry, and engineering.”
TM is now offering arts programming for mentors and mentees to enjoy this spring. They will be offering various ways for mentors and mentees to explore artistic expression together. Partnerships with artists and small businesses have been vital in creating an extensive suite of programming to include opportunities like: music lessons with local musician John Williams of Shore Community Music Center, floral arranging with Talbot Mentor Dede Hoopes of Hoopsy Daisy Farm, creative movement with local instructor Octavine Baltimore of Fitness Rx, Culinary Class with Ryan Groll from Eat Sprout, and Austin Smale of Taste, mixed media arts with local artist Josepha Price, and mural painting with Danielle Campbell.
