Skipjack Nathan of Dorchester Sail

September 2, 9, 16, 30 • 1 p.m.

Long Wharf, 100 High Street, Cambridge

Join the Skipjack Nathan of Dorchester, an authentic traditional oyster dredging vessel and Maryland’s state boat, for a two-hour cruise on the Choptank River. Each sail is two hours long and generally includes an oyster dredging demonstration. Sails are unique depending on wind, weather, captain and crew. Advance reservations are recommended and accepted online until midnight of the day before the sail. The Nathan carries up to 20 passengers per trip. For details, visit www.skipjack-nathan.org.

Native American Artifact Exhibit

September 9 • 10 a.m.-3 p.m.

Dorchester County Historical Society, 1003 Greenway Drive, Cambridge

The 16th Native American artifact exhibit will be held within the Robbins Heritage Center at LaGrange Plantation. This event is sponsored by the Dorchester County Historical Society, the South Dorchester Folk Museum, and the Mid-Shore Archeological Club. Cost is $5 for non-members, and children are free to tour the museum and the artifact exhibit. View many beautiful collections of arrowheads, axes, tools and other amazing artifacts. Many knowledgeable people will be present; bring artifacts in for identification. Most of the artifacts displayed were collected from the shorelines and fields of Dorchester and surrounding counties. There will be about 40 tables displaying the very best artifacts of many lifetime collections, some four and five generations old. No artifacts will be bought, sold, or traded. Second Saturday

September 9 • 5-9 p.m.

Downtown Cambridge

This monthly celebration in downtown Cambridge features art gallery receptions, as well as specials in the independently owned shops and great dining. Shops and galleries are open all day and into the evening. Live music is on tap at several restaurants later in the evening. As always on Second Saturday, downtown’s restaurants will be busy, so call ahead with your dining reservations. Plenty of free parking. Visit DowntownCambridge.org.

Second Saturday Book Sale

Dorchester County Library, 303 Gay Street, Cambridge

The Friends of the Library hold its Monthly Book Sale at the Cambridge location of the Dorchester County Library on the second Saturday of the month from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The sale offers a wide range of fiction, history, cooking, gardening, non-fiction and more at bargain prices. Reading Social

Hurlock Community Center, 220 Main Street, Hurlock

Reading Socials are a great way to support literacy and encourage reading. Children have an array of books to read to someone or have someone read to them. Children may take one free book per Reading Social to build a home library. Themed-based art projects are also included in these socials. Reading Socials are free literacy support for our community and free for children 12 and under. However, older children will not be turned away. Native American Festival

Ball Field, 214 Middle Street, Vienna

The Nause-Waiwash Band of Indians (NWBI) will present the 31st Native American Festival in Vienna on Saturday, September 16 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. under the water tower on the ball field. Local Native American cultural demonstrations and exhibits include hoop dancers, drummers, singers, local Native American artifacts, arrow making, and more. IRONMAN Maryland

The Dorchester Center for the Arts presents its Showcase in the street to celebrate our creative community.
