Talbot Hospice Support Groups – November 2019

For anyone grieving the death of a loved one, Talbot Hospice can help. Talbot Hospice offers a variety of grief and caregiver support groups that are free of charge and open to the public. All sessions are held at Talbot Hospice, 586 Cynwood Drive in Easton unless otherwise noted. What Should I Say When Someone is Grieving?

November 4 • 11 a.m.

Easton Library

We’ve all been in that situation before where someone we care about is hurting. Talbot Hospice Bereavement Coordinator Becky DeMattia will address the question often asked by individuals trying to offer comfort and love to the bereaved. Learn some commonly used phrases to avoid as well as suggestions for what is appropriate.

Healing Through Yoga

November 5, 12, 19, 26 • 9-10 a.m.

This new complementary therapy guides participants through mindfulness and poses that direct healing in positive ways. Participants will learn empowering techniques to cope with grief and honor their loss. Led by Leslie Ornoff, RYT. No previous yoga experience necessary. Yoga mats will be provided, and walk-ins are welcome.

Pet Loss Support Group

November 7 • 6-7 p.m.

This ongoing monthly support group hosted by Talbot Hospice and Talbot Humane is for anyone grieving the death of a beloved pet. Meets every first Thursday of the month. For more information, contact Linda Elzey at lwelzey@gmail.com or call Talbot Humane at 410-822-0107.

Caregivers Support Group

November 7, 14, 21 • 1-2:15 p.m. (No group Thanksgiving Day)

This ongoing weekly support group is for caregivers who are taking care of a loved one with a life-limiting illness. Meets every Thursday at 1 p.m.

Navigating the Holidays in the Midst of Grief

November 9 • 9 a.m.-Noon

In this workshop, participants will learn new coping skills to help navigate the holiday season, including ways to incorporate new traditions while honoring the memory and legacy of a loved one. Registration is required.

Advance Healthcare Planning

November 12 • 11 a.m.

Talbot Hospice staff and trained volunteers will help you understand your options for advance healthcare planning and complete your advance directive paperwork including the Five Wishes. Offered every second Tuesday of the month.

Healing After a Traumatic Loss

November 12 • 6:30-8 p.m.

This ongoing monthly support group is specifically for anyone impacted by a traumatic death including accident, overdose, suicide, or homicide. Meets the second Tuesday of every month.

Poetry Reading

November 19 • 3 p.m.

Poet and author Sue Ellen Thompson will read from two of her books – The Golden Hour and They – about caretaking, grieving, loss, and healing. The Golden Hour was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize in 2006. Sue Ellen’s work has been included in the Best American Poetry series and has won numerous prizes, including the Maryland Author Prize from the Maryland Library Association, given every four years for an author’s body of work.

Child Loss Support Group

November 20 • 6:30 p.m.

This ongoing monthly support group is for anyone grieving the death of a child of any age. Sessions are held the third Wednesday of each month.

Monthly Grief Support Group

November 26 • 5-6:30 p.m.

This ongoing monthly support group is for anyone in the community who is grieving the death of a loved one, regardless of whether or not they were served by Talbot Hospice. Meets every fourth Tuesday of the month.
