The Chesapeake Cycling Club – a regional bike club for exploring the roads of Talbot, Caroline, Queen Anne, Dorchester and surrounding areas, called “C3” for short, is looking for new members. The club enjoys rides from 20+ plus miles depending on the A, B, or C level group and tries to accommodate all levels of road cyclists. Riders’ average speeds are between 12 and 22 miles per hour and participants are encouraged to use a road cycle to participate. Rides start from various locations throughout the Eastern Shore, including the YMCA, Sprout and Snifters in Easton; Ten Eyck Brewing in Queenstown; and Lyon Distillery in St. Michaels to name a few.
The club organizes three to four organized rides a week during the spring, summer and fall and offers virtual group rides on Zwift from October 1 to March 1. The club participates in several charity rides throughout the year, including Tour de Talbot in June, which raises money for the Maryland food bank, and the Ride for Clean Rivers in September, which supports making the Bay a cleaner place through the Shore River Keepers organization. Participants can choose to ride casually with the group as their schedule allows and longer charity rides are optional. Dues are $35 per year and include a discounted team jersey.
In addition, C3 is working to offer a bike safety event with the YMCA of the Chesapeake and members work with MDOT to provide bike safety equipment, including reflective vests for riding and bike lights. The club supports riding as a group and on planned routes for a safer cycling experience.
