As The Avalon Theatre and Stoltz Listening Room turn the heat on another season, they would like to remind potential and returning patrons that both rooms have top rated air conditioning and environments, both support a helpful staff and both host the region’s top musical acts. Enjoy the rest of the season.

Kat Parsons with special guest Quinn Parsley

Kat Parsons makes a return engagement. “Strong, hook-filled songwriting, and one of the most stunningly beautiful voices you’ll hear anywhere…” says music writer Rik Ferrell. Kat Parsons will restore your faith in great music and is one of the best show women to ever grace the stage. Kat is heartfelt and nearly riotously funny in one. Especially when her parents appear with her. This time she brings along a special guest, Quinn Parsley on piano and guitar.

Native Harrow

August 11

“…spectral folk-pop atmospherics created and dreamy lead guitar melodies.” Native Harrow is the renaissance woman of song…recommended if you like the music of late 60s Laurel Canyon (Joni Mitchell, CSN&Y), Nick Drake’s somber beauty, the contemporary folk of Laura Marling. Influences as diverse as 60s art rock, Hindustani classical music, English folk, New York avant-garde jazz, 60s jazz pop, and 80s indie rock show up in her sound.

The Ladles

August 12

The Ladles are an amalgamation of their respective histories and influences, blending Swing, Old-Time, Neo-Soul, and Choral music into rich harmonics. They quiet noisy bars and liven up staid concert halls. Using solely acoustic instrumentation and three incredible voices, they create master harmonies akin to The Roches.

John McCutcheon

August 18

John McCutcheon’s first award-winning song was entitled “The Ponderosa No-Cream-in-My-Coffee Blues.” He was all of 15 years old and it won him his high school talent show. Since those early creative days John’s 36 albums have earned six Grammy nominations while his hundreds of eclectic songs have garnered more than his share of accolades, with his song “Christmas in the Trenches” considered a classic and recently named one of the 100 Essential Folk Songs.

Annalise Emerick

August 24

Annalise Emerick makes her first appearance. She is the 2016 Kerrville New Folk Finalist. Her debut album “Field Notes,” recorded with her heart on her sleeve and a collection of autobiographical tunes in her pocket, exhibits the raw vocals and heartfelt lyricism that have situated her among fans of Brandi Carlile, Patty Griffin, and Natalie Maines.

Hi Voltage

September 29

Baltimore’s High Voltage is the Premier AC/DC Tribute Band comprised of veteran professional musicians. Emulating the pure essence, power, and electricity of what an AC/DC show is all about, High Voltage will deliver the band’s biggest rockin’ hits: “You Shook Me All Night Long,” “Highway To Hell,” “Back In Black,” “Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap,” “Hell’s Bells,” “T.N.T.,” and more.

The Acoustic Duo

September 30

From Little Feat come Paul Barrere and Fred Tackett, “The Acoustic Duo.” From the first time they played “Dixie Chicken” nearly 35 years ago, renowned Little Feat guitar players Paul Barrere and Fred Tackett have been making legendary music. Following spectacular careers leading Little Feat, and playing with artists like Bonnie Raitt, Bob Dylan and Taj Mahal, these two guitar virtuosos are together again. Now an acoustic duo, they bring a rare opportunity for audiences to savor songs from the Little Feat catalog and much more, all with their distinctly different artistic stamp.
