It’s nearly time for the Caroline-Dorchester County Fair, slated for August 2 through 5 at the Caroline County 4-H Park in Denton. There is something for everyone.

For the animal lovers there will be livestock topped off by an auction, a pet contest and a dress-a-goat contest. 4-Hers, as well as adults, will have “the fruits of their labor” on display so come and see if you agree with the judge’s ribbon placement. On Wednesday night there is a Cake Auction where one can bid on some very creative cakes. There will be all kinds of food available and a special dinner each night. There will be entertainment like music, magic and amusements as well as many contests that include crowning fair royalty and a Baby Contest.

There are a few special items worth mentioning. On Wednesday, August 2 it’s free admission, starting at 4 p.m., compliments of the Caroline and Dorchester County Chambers Of Commerce. Nagel Crop Insurance is providing free ice cream with coupons as well. A highlight of the 2016 Caroline-Dorchester Fair includes the outhouse race, an opening night tradition.

On Thursday, August 3, the Fair Board is asking everyone to bring a canned food item as a way of giving back to the Community. A canned food item for the MD Food Bank makes admission only $1 per person. It is also Children’s Day from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Story time is at 11 a.m., games are at noon and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. all amusement rides are a $1. Thursday, August 3 is the crab cake dinner and the entertainment for the evening will be the Jones Boys at 7 p.m.

On Friday, August 4, see the fish mobile and Scales and Tales and learn about nature and the environment. Don’t miss the Dress a Goat Contest at 6 p.m. The evening dinner is Pit Beef and the entertainment will be Mike Hines starting at 7 p.m.

On Saturday, August 5, there will be a horse show, train display, Cow Patty Bingo, jousting (at noon) and a pet show. Enjoy the chicken BBQ dinner and be entertained by Small Town Showdown starting at 7 p.m.
