Habitat Choptank ReStore Celebrates Earth Day

April 28, 2017 @ 9:00 am - 4:00 pm

Help celebrate Earth Day 2017 by shopping, donating and volunteering at the store that supports Habitat for Humanity. The community is invited to a special open house at the Habitat Choptank ReStore at 8610 Commerce Drive in Easton that Saturday, April 22, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Your purchases from and donations to the ReStore help families build strength and stability in our community through affordable home ownership.

Shoppers can find an abundance of treasures at their local ReStore, whether they need something to use today or an item they can upcycle into something new to use tomorrow. Each purchase and donation helps the environment, our community and many in need of better shelter.

The Earth Day Open House will include special discounts. In appreciation of ReStore donors, shoppers who have made a recent donation can receive $20 off their purchase of $25 or more. Customers who bring in their Habitat Choptank ReStore donation receipt dated 12/1/2016 – 4/8/2017 can enjoy this discount. Shoppers can also take advantage of a grab bag of coupons to receive additional price reductions at check out.

While the ReStore is known for its inventory of donated building materials, appliances, new and gently used furniture and home accessories, the furniture department is by far its most popular. For the Earth Day Open House, several one of a kind recycled furniture pieces will be available for purchase thanks to two local artists. Terri Griffin, owner of Pollie and Papier – Recycled Furniture, will donate items originally found at the Habitat Choptank ReStore that she has upcycled for both function and whimsy. Maggii Sarfaty, who specializes in murals, faux finishes and fine arts, will also lend her talent to create something truly one of a kind. In addition, there will be a one-day only silent auction of unique collectibles that have been specifically collected through the store’s donation center.

The Habitat Choptank ReStore is open Wednesdays – Saturdays for shoppers and donations. The store also operates two box trucks which are available to pick up larger donations with advance scheduling from around the region.

“Every donation to the Habitat Choptank ReStore helps to improve the lives of hardworking families in need of better housing,” said Chris Smith, manager, Habitat Choptank ReStore. “Since we opened our doors in 2010, Habitat Choptank has completed 21 homes with six more currently in progress. Proceeds from the ReStore have helped to make this great work possible in both Dorchester and Talbot counties.

The Habitat Choptank ReStore relies heavily on the generosity of volunteers. For information about how to volunteer, call the store’s donation line at 410-820-6186 or visit http://www.habitatchoptank.org/restore-2-2/. New volunteers are asked to attend one of the twice a month orientation sessions which take place at the store on the first and third Thursday of each month.
