Kalmar Nyckel Sails

Adventure awaits when Kalmar Nyckel, The Tall Ship of Delaware, returns to Cambridge. Discover the remarkable story behind Kalmar Nyckel, a full-scale replica of the merchant ship that brought Swedish settlers to North America in 1638. Day sails on the Kalmar Nyckel offer a unique, hands-on experience where adventure and education come together. Haul lines, set sails, and hear tales from the crew, or simply relax and enjoy the ship. Kids will enjoy a scavenger hunt and pirate story (costumes welcome). Tickets are limited and available online at KalmarNyckel.org/explore or by calling 302-429-7447. Tickets cost $65 per adult and $40 per child 12 and younger. Advance reservations are highly recommended. The schedule is weather dependent.

Reading Social

June 3 • 10 a.m.-Noon

204 Cedar Street, Cambridge

Harvesting Hope hosts monthly Reading Socials to promote literacy, healthy nutrition, and art. Children have an array of books to read to someone or have someone read to them. Children receive a free book at each social to build home libraries. The reading socials are free literacy support for children 12 and under but no child will be turned away. Youth Fishing Fun Day

June 3 • 9 a.m.-1 p.m.

Hog Range Pond, 4068 Golden Hill Road, Church Creek

This non-competitive fishing event is for youth 15 and under. Parking is at the pavilion at Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad State Park. Fishing poles and bait will be provided or bring your own. Staff and volunteers are on hand to assist youth with their fishing experience. Free hot dog lunch and take-home goodies for the first 100 registered youths. Pre-register at 410-228-2677 or register at the event. Pets are not permitted.

Skipjack Nathan of Dorchester Sail

June 3, 7, 10, 17, 24 • 1-3 p.m.

Long Wharf, 100 High Street, Cambridge

Join the Skipjack Nathan of Dorchester, an authentic traditional oyster dredging vessel and Maryland’s state boat, for a two-hour cruise on the Choptank River. Each sail is two hours long and generally includes an oyster dredging demonstration. Sails are unique depending on wind, weather, captain and crew. Advance reservations are recommended and accepted online until midnight of the day before the sail. The Nathan carries up to 20 passengers per trip. For details, visit www.skipjack-nathan.org.

Golf Tournament and Crab Feast

River Marsh Golf Club and Portside Restaurant, Cambridge

The Grand National Waterfowl Association will host its 37th event, complete with an awards ceremony and crab feast at Portside Restaurant following the golf tournament. Call 410-228-0111 for details.

Finding Harriet Tubman’s Family Dwelling

June 10 • 3 p.m.

Harriet Tubman Museum and Educational Center, 424 Race Street, Cambridge

Aaron Levinthal, archeologist, will discuss his work and ongoing dig to discover the lost history of Harriet Tubman, her family and the life of enslaved people living in Dorchester County. Register at www.harriettubmanmuseumcenter.org.

Second Saturday

June 10 • 5-9 p.m.

Downtown Cambridge

This monthly celebration in downtown Cambridge features art gallery receptions, as well as specials in the independently owned shops and great dining. Shops and galleries are open all day and into the evening. Live music is on tap at several restaurants later in the evening. As always on Second Saturday, downtown’s restaurants will be busy, so call ahead with your dining reservations. Plenty of free parking. Updated info at DowntownCambridge.org.

Second Saturday Book Sale

The Friends of the Library hold its Monthly Book Sale at the Cambridge location of the Dorchester County Library on the second Saturday of the month from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The sale offers a wide range of fiction, history, cooking, gardening, non-fiction and more at bargain prices. Annual Members Exhibit and Sale

June 10 • 5-7 p.m.

Dorchester Center for the Arts, Cambridge

Between June 2 and 24, the entire gallery will feature the annual Members Exhibit with a special reception on June 10. Awards will be presented for Best in Show, Best Depiction of Dorchester County, Most Creative, and People’s Choice. For more details, call 410-228-7782.

Spring Show Reception

Main Street Gallery is excited to present “Spring Show 2023 – Including New Artists, New Media.” The gallery has recently welcomed four new members who bring with them a wealth of talent, experience and exciting new work in a variety of media. They will be showing alongside the gallery’s other nine members through July 2. Sheryl Southwick (collages, paintings and prints), Bill Pavan (woodworker), Rick Klepfer (black and white pen and ink drawings), and David Stevens (photographer) are the newest members. IRONMAN 70.3 Eagleman

June 11 • 6:30 a.m.

Gerry Boyle Park, Cambridge

Athletes will get comfortable in an open water swim by freestyling their way through the Choptank River. The flat bike course through the wildlife refuge will allow athletes to test their cadence while taking in scenic vistas, and athletes can widen their stride during the 13.1-mile run until they hit the finish line in Gerry Boyle Park.
