“Men of Color Who Served in the Civil War”

Dr. Clara Small will lecture on “Men of Color from the Lower Eastern Shore who served in the Civil War.” The Upper Shore Genealogical Society of Maryland will host a membership meeting and 2 hour FREE Event, Open to the Public, Saturday, January 11, 2020, 1 pm, at the Caroline County Public Library, Denton, MD, 2nd Floor.

Dr. Clara Small is professor emeritus with Salisbury University, historian, and published author. Over the course of her nearly 40-year career as a professor at Salisbury University, Dr. Clara Small became known as one of the leading scholars and historians on African American history on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. She has written four volumes on local African-American history including Compass Points: Profiles and Biographies of African-Americans from the Delmarva Peninsula Volumes I and II; They Wore Blue and Their Hearts Were Loyal: The United States Colored Troops of Dorchester County, Maryland, co-authored with Teresa M. Neild; A Reality Check: Brief Biographies of African-Americans on Delmarva and Men of Color to Arms! Manumitted Slaves and Free Blacks from the Lower Eastern Shore of Maryland Who Served in the Civil War, co-authored with David Briddell.   For more information, go to usgsmd@yahoo.com.
