Music in the Gallery
April 23, 2017 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Carpe Diem Arts presents Swing-Jazz Duo Guy Van Duser and Billy Novick on Sunday, April 23 at the Contemporary Tapestry Studio and Gallery in Royal Oak at 5 p.m.

Their repertoire is fresh and original, yet also deeply rooted in the rich legacy of the classic jazz age – ranging from an obscure Ellington tune, a Gershwin classic, a complex Jelly Roll Morton arrangement, to a rollicking blues number and a dazzling Sousa march.
Together as a duo for more than 30 years, longer than most marriages, Guy and Billy have performed in concerts, clubs and festivals all over North America and Europe. They have been frequent guests on Garrison Keillor’s “Prairie Home Companion,” NPR’s “All Things Considered,” or on one of numerous film and television soundtracks.
Their music is based around Guy’s innovative finger-style guitar wizardry and his uncanny ability to play bass lines, chords and melodies all at the same time. With his daring imagination, breathtaking technique and his wonderful musicality, Guy has become an inspiration for guitarists all over the world.
Billy’s ever-inventive and soulful clarinet playing provides the ideal complement to Guy’s guitar. With his vast knowledge of the classic jazz era, his dazzling improvising skills and his entertaining vocals, Billy is able to add a melodic and dynamic spark to Guy’s guitar.
Billy also earned major acclaim recently for his compositions and arrangements for Washington Ballet’s acclaimed productions of “The Great Gatsby” and “The Sun Also Rises.”
After the performance, there will be a wine and cheese reception. Enjoy the beautiful tapestries on display in Ulrika Leander’s studio and gallery. This program is funded in part by a grant from the Talbot County Arts Council, with revenues provided by the Maryland State Arts Council.
Tickets are $22 for adults, $7 for students and are discounted for groups or those who request assistance. Space is limited. For tickets, visit www.brownpapertickets.com/event/2843968.
