Music of Tilghman Concert Series
July 8, 2017 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
The Tilghman United Methodist Church is sponsoring a special two-part concert on July 8 at 6 p.m. As part of the 2017 Music of Tilghman Concert Series this one is a “double-header,” two concerts in one. The evening opens with the “Fathers and Sons” gospel quartet with accompaniment by pianist Isaiah Embert. This popular group is based out of Tilghman and their music is rooted in the island’s long tradition of Southern Gospel music, which at one time was so popular that there were five Southern Gospel groups on Tilghman’s Island alone.
The concert concludes with a rousing performance by the Lighthouse Fellowship Choir lead by Isaiah Embert. Isaiah, now a student at Chesapeake Community College, is a popular Southern Gospel and jazz pianist known for his exuberant and masterful style. He grew up locally playing in churches around the Eastern Shore and he had a vision of getting the churches in the Talbot and Dorchester County areas to come together and sing New Gospel Songs and even old Spirituals. That vision lead to the formation in September 2016 of the Lighthouse Fellowship Choir. Some of the churches represented in the choir are Asbury UMC of Easton, New Zion UMC of Newtown, Scotts UMC of Trappe, Union Baptist Church of Easton, New Queen Esther AME Church of Ivytown and Union Chapel AME Church of Cordtown.
This free concert is a great way to participate in the community, meet new friends and enjoy the extraordinary musical talents of your neighbors. It is sponsored by the Tilghman United Methodist Church, with support from the Friends of the Tilghman Watermen’s Museum, and partially sponsored by the Talbot County Arts Council with funds provided by the Talbot County Council and the Towns of Easton, Oxford and St. Michaels.
