Presenting Alterculture
April 14, 2018 @ 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Alternative, anti-establishment and definitely not mainstream…these words define Alterculture, which is the title of Main Street Gallery’s latest show. Alterculture aptly defines featured artist Mary Ann Schindler’s bold, contemporary work. Joining fellow MSG artists, Mary Ann, who lives and works in Easton, is showing paintings and mixed media sculptures that exude an edgy, often other worldly vibe.
Drawing from a mix of materials as varied and diverse as acrylic paint, polyurethane, dispersion paint, gesso, screen and other repurposed materials, Mary Ann creates thoughtful and thought-provoking works that engage and challenge the viewer with their unique, and unexpected visions.

Mary Ann has been drawn to the creative process, she says, since childhood and fondly recalls making art as far back as grammar school. After college she turned to commercial art and after working for a number of years as an illustrator and art director, she eventually opened her own business in the Washington, D.C. area. Since moving to the Eastern Shore in 1999, she has vigorously pursued her art on a full-time basis and has continued studying through experimental workshops and artists’ retreats.
Alterculture will run through April 30. The gallery’s hours are Fridays through Mondays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be an artists’ receptions on Second Saturday, April 14 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the gallery, located at 518 Poplar Street in Cambridge. Light refreshments will be served and all are welcome. For more information, visit mainstgallery.org or call the gallery at 410-330-4659.
