St. Michaels Middle High School Presents “Big Fish”
March 6, 2020 @ 7:00 pm - March 7, 2020 @ 9:00 pm
A giant, a witch, a mermaid, — all part of Edward Bloom’s tall tales, but are they really tales? Come find out at the St. Michaels Middle High School Drama Club’s spring musical production of “Big Fish”.
Remember back when your parents were a huge embarrassment to you. Welcome to the world of Will Bloom, a young man whose father has regaled him with wild tales that have embarrassed him for years.
The story shifts between two timelines. In the present-day real world, sixty-year-old Edward Bloom faces his mortality while Will prepares to become a father himself. In the storybook past, Edward ages from a teenager, encountering a Witch, a Giant, a Mermaid, and the love of his life, Sandra. The stories meet as Will discovers the secrets his father never revealed
Come to the St. Michaels Middle High School this weekend and see. You will fall under the spell of Edward Bloom, Alabama homeboy, teller of tall tales and creaky jokes, and absentee husband and father. You will love the opening of Act 2, when the dance ensemble taps away the show stopping number “Red, White, and Blue”. And you might learn how to do the “Alabama Stomp”.
And the Daffodils – thousands of them. Watch as young Will gets fired from a cannon into a sea of them.
The show was originally produced on Broadway by Susan Stroman, and ran to rave reviews.
The show stars seniors Ryan Batley, Max Brennan, Tori Gomez, and Kyla Mullaney, all of whom are longtime veterans of SMMHS productions.
It is directed by SMMHS teacher Theresa Sage. The Orchestra is conducted by Chris Flaherty, and the Musical Direction by Amy Effler.
Big Fish will be performed on Friday and Saturday nights, February 28th and 29th, and the following Friday and Saturday, March 6th and 7th. The tickets booth opens at 6:00 pm, the show starts at 7:00. There will also be a Sunday Matinee on March 8th at 2:00 pm with doors opening at 1:30
Tickets can be purchased at the door or on-line at showtixforu.com or by calling 866- 967 – 8167.
