New Artist Exhibits

Tish Fine Art Plus hosts an exhibit, “Tish Artists take the Stage,” with Tish’s regular artists. Twenty 2D artists, along with an amazing group of artisans, are showing until September 12, with a First Friday Celebration on September 3 from 5 to 7 p.m. Opening on September 16, award winning artist Paul Santori presents his divergent and engaging portfolio, “An Eastern Shore Retrospective,” to celebrate four years of painting on the Shore. Stephen Phillip Harvey Big Band

Passionate about both jazz and pop culture, composer Stephen Philip Harvey never shies away from blending both into his writing. In his current large ensemble project, Stephen uses contemporary big band writing styles and genre-blending idioms to bring comic book inspired pieces to life. These compositions combine elements of big band jazz, fusion, funk, rock, and cinematic score to bring classic characters and scenes off the page. Call 410-639-9133.

25th Chestertown Jazz Festival
September 9-11
Rock Hall and Chestertown
Enjoy three days of fabulous jazz featuring national and regional artists. The festival begins Thursday, September 9 at The Mainstay in Rock Hall with Chuck Redd & Company. Wilmer Park will host the rest of the weekend’s festivities. The opening Gala Cocktail Party and Concert will be held Friday, September 10 and features The Bratcher Project, Joe Holt and The Sholbertshire Quartet. Saturday’s headliner is Christian McBride’s Jawn, plus the Chestertown Revue, Burke Family Gospel and the Ephraim and Ebbin Dorsey Quintet. Tickets may be purchased at www.garfieldcenter.org.

MassoniArt presents Marcy Dunn Ramey’s annual exhibit, “Geometries,” starting with an opening reception on September 11 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., with an artist’s talk at noon. This series of gatherings takes place in downtown Chestertown every third Thursday of the month through October, from 6 to 8 p.m., weather permitting. The town closes the 300 block of High Street, adjacent to Fountain Park, beginning at 5:30 p.m., and owners line up their antique, exotic, classic, or custom cars to share with other auto enthusiasts and the general public. Sultana Education Foundation’s Gala
