CWH Partners with Radcliffe Creek School for Earth Day Beautification Project

Chestertown, MD, June 1, 2026 — Chesapeake Wildlife Heritage’s Education/Outreach Director, Andi Pupke, designed a pollinator garden for Radcliffe Creek School. On April 24th, Radcliffe students, under Pupke’s guidance, planted the garden as part of the school’s Earth Day Celebration and in furtherance of its “No Child Left Inside Initiative”. The gardens will be used for cross-curricular activities during the school year.

Andi started the day with a group of students who discussed the needs of local pollinators, like native bees and Monarch butterflies. The students also learned about the importance of native plants for wildlife. All students enjoyed adding new soil and planting the raised beds for a pollinator garden.

A pollinator garden is designed to attract and support pollinating insects and animals, such as bees, butterflies, moths, and hummingbirds. By providing pollinators with essential food, shelter, and water, these gardens help sustain local biodiversity.

Native pollinator populations have been in decline due to loss of habitat, insecticide use, non-native plants, and many other contributing factors.

Based on Maryland’s Eastern Shore, Chesapeake Wildlife Heritage designs, builds, and manages wildlife habitats to restore biodiversity, support wildlife populations, and enhance water quality in the Chesapeake Bay watershed. Learn more at ChesWildlife.org

Radcliffe Creek School is the Eastern Shore’s leading K-8 school for students with learning differences. Located in Chestertown, their expert faculty are uniquely trained in research-backed methods grounded in the science of reading, providing individualized, strength-based instruction that challenges and engages every student.
