Graham Slaughter Biannual Photography Competition

The Graham Slaughter Biannual Photography Competition was founded in 2005 by the late Dr. Graham Slaughter, former DCA Board President. This group exhibition continues today, bringing together community members and artists throughout the DMV region.

This year’s theme is Unspoken. How does the art of photography reveal the depth and nuance of the human experience? The subject matter ranges from love, loss, connection, disconnection and more. Photographs from 29 artists working in portraiture, documentary, abstract, landscape and other styles that express the theme of Unspoken are on view. This exhibition reveals the ordinary and extraordinary human experience.

Fragments of Time – Photographs by Sahm Doherty-Sefton

Fragments of Time is a solo exhibition of photographer Sahm Doherty-Sefton, exhibited alongside the Graham Slaughter Photography Competition. Doherty-Sefton was the first woman photographer on the masthead of Time Magazine, where she remained for more than 25 years. She was Time’s White House photographer and has documented numerous world leaders including Margaret Thatcher, Anwar Sadat and Yasser Arafat.

Fragments of Time exhibits a collection of photographs from Doherty-Sefton that range from her years at Time Magazine, as a White House Photographer, as well as her contemporary photographic artwork. These later works include largescale landscapes, domestic scenes and quiet moments of a life well lived.

Doherty-Sefton will give an artist talk at the closing reception for the exhibition on Saturday, September 12th, at 6pm.
