 “Fleeting Summer”

Artists' Gallery

On First Friday, September 4th, The Artists’ Gallery will feature new work by Mary Ellen Mabe.  Her upcoming show, “Fleeting Summer”, will illustrate  Mary Ellen’s approach to painting as one of idea, concept and composition.  With that in mind, she moves on to the story that she would like to tell.

“Sometimes it is a photo that I’ve taken yesterday, or years ago.  It might be a still life with flowers.  Perhaps it’s a figure or group of figures, or just  something that I find appealing.  Once I set the canvas on the easel, I try to find a focal point, horizon line, and placement of the subject and begin to draw with my brush.  Loosely brushing in the values, I start to think about color choices.  Hopefully, this all goes well and I am on my way.”  As the famous artist Robert Henri once said, “The picture that looks as if it were done without effort may have been a perfect battlefield in its making!”

Mary Ellen’s paintings have been juried into local art competitions and have won Judge’s Awards of Excellence and Honorable Mentions.  She has participated in classes and traveled to workshops in the United States and abroad.  She is a partner in The Artists’ Gallery in Chestertown, Maryland,  a member of The Working Artists’ Forum in Easton and The St. Michael’s Art League.  Her paintings for The Artists’ Gallery are a compendium of her  work.

The Artists’ Gallery invites the public to their opening reception for Mary Ellen Mabe on First Friday, September 4th, from 5-7:30 p.m. for light refreshments and to meet the artist.  Mary Ellen’s paintings will be featured in The Artists’ Gallery throughout the month of September.  The Artists’

Gallery is located at 239 High Street in Chestertown and is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and on Sundays from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.  For more information about The Artists’ Gallery, please visit their website at www.theartistsgalleryctown.com or call the  gallery at 410-778-2425.
