The Colonel Tench Tilghman Chapter of the Maryland Society Sons of the American Revolution (MDSSAR or SAR) will hold its third quarterly meeting of the year on Saturday September 26, 2026 starting at 10:00 AM at the Talbot County Free Library branch in Saint Michaels, Maryland.

In addition to inducting three new SAR members into the chapter and making a public service & heroism award, we will hear from Revolutionary War expert, Gene Procknow, author of a new book Revolutionary Republics: The First Thirteen State Constitutions. Procknow will demonstrate that the 13 colonial assemblies were seeking protection against arbitrary power and wanted to closely control their governments when they prepared their first state constitutions. He will also demonstrate that much of the United States Constitution and Bill of Rights comes from these first 13 state constitutions.

Procknow holds master’s degrees in history and business from Norwich University and the University of Michigan. He is the author of William Hunter-Finding Free Speech, A British Soldier’s Son Who Became an Early American (Oxford Southern, 2022). He writes for peer-reviewed publications, including the Journal of Military History, the British Journal of Military History, and the Journal of the American Revolution. Additionally, ten of his articles have been republished in book form. Procknow is a frequent media contributor, appearing in RealClearHistory, RealClearDefense, and the Rand Corporation, as well as in dozens of TV and podcast interviews.
