Spiralis Gallery: Where Art Breaks Down The Silos

A conversation starter in Easton, Maryland

Gail Patterson has a simple but powerful observation: Our world is very siloed. We live in our corners, our communities, our carefully curated spaces. But to step out of those silos, she says, some people need an invitation.

That’s why Spiralis Gallery exists.

Located on Dover Street in Easton, Maryland, Spiralis is a contemporary art space with a deliberate mission: to use art as a connectional tool. Not mere decoration.

“The art that I collect is art that speaks to me,” Patterson explains. She’s been drawn to story-driven work for years. Narratives that speak to the soul and invite conversation. “It’s not just a thing that goes on your wall,” she says. “There’s a story behind that.”

Patterson founded Spiralis with this philosophy at its core: that art should break down the barriers between people. That story-driven work, especially work by artists whose voices have been historically marginalized, deserves to be seen. And that collectors today are hungry for work that means something.

The Exhibition: Landscapes Within

This summer, Spiralis is presenting Landscapes Within, an exhibition that embodies this philosophy perfectly. As Patterson puts it, “external landscapes are the physical environments we inhabit that shape our experiences and connect us to the natural world. Internal landscapes are the emotional, psychological, and imaginative terrains of the mind. I love the contrast of exploration that these artists represent with this theme.”

Three artists anchor the exhibition. Larry Horowitz brings landscapes that exist somewhere between abstraction and reality—vistas painted en plein air, then distilled through months of studio work until “the painting develops a heartbeat, a life of its own where feelings can exist.”

Victoria Oniosun makes her Spiralis debut with rich, dynamic paintings exploring femininity, identity, and emotional expression. In her practice, spirituality plays a central role. “Through nature, I developed a deeper, more intuitive connection to God, making spirituality an essential thread in my practice rooted in presence, stillness, and observation,” she explains. “Moving between figuration and abstraction, my painting explores the invisible landscapes that live within us.”

Lionel Daniels, a D.C.-based artist new to the gallery, brings vibrant mixed media assemblage work that reimagines sacred iconography and explores protection, empowerment, and spiritual agency.

Together, these artists invite viewers into a conversation about what lies beneath the surface, the inner terrain we all navigate, the spiritual dimensions of everyday life, and the stories we carry.

An Invitation

Patterson’s invitation stands: come in and visit. See work that deserves to be seen. Have a conversation with art that speaks to your soul. Break out of your silo.

Spiralis Gallery is located at 35 Dover Street, Easton, MD 21601. Hours: Thursday–Saturday, 11 AM–5 PM; Sunday, 11 AM–4 PM; Wednesday by appointment. Landscapes Within is showing through August 2. Call 908-625-8704 or visit spiralisgallery.com.
