Easton, MD (July 2, 2026)— Talbot Thrive is pleased to announce that it will be expanding its Bike Safety Kit Giveaway Program thanks to a grant from the Maryland Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Administration’s Highway Safety Office.

The grant will enable Talbot Thrive to supply more people who use bikes to commute with gear that will help them be more visible to drivers. The kit includes a lighted helmet, front and rear lights, and reflective wheel stickers, leg band, and sash belt.

“Commuting to work or school in low light or darkness can be challenging and often dangerous, especially if you are traveling on the same roads as vehicles,” says Heather Grant, Talbot Thrive’s executive director. “Your best chance of staying safe is to make sure people driving can see you.”

Talbot Thrive’s partners in the Bike Safety Kit Giveaway Program are the Chesapeake Multicultural Resource Center, the Neighorhood Service Center, BAAM, Easton High School (Office of Community Schools), and the St. Michaels Community Center. Kits can be acquired through any of these organizations.

“If you ride a bike we urge you to reach out to one of our partners for a kit,” says Grant. “Too many riders are sharing the road with drivers who simply aren’t paying enough attention — and while a helmet can’t guarantee your safety in every situation, it dramatically increases your chances of walking away from a crash. Our mission is to ensure the safe mobility of everyone riding, walking, and rolling in Talbot County, and making these kits available to more riders gets us closer to that goal.”
